Time Warner Center
The Time Warner Center is a new skyscraper in New York City. It was developed by The Related Companies. The building consists of two 750 foot towers that are bridged by a multi-story atrium with upscale retail shops. One interesting fact that you may learn when you visit with your New York City cheap car rental is that the Time Warner Building has the highest listed market value in the city ($1.1 billion in 2006).
The Time Warner Center can be found in Columbus Circle in Midtown Manhattan. There are a number of offices, residential condominiums, shops, and even the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. At the base of the Time Warner Building there is an upscale shopping mall, while the basement contains a large Whole Foods Market. There is a 1200-seat theater for Jazz at Lincoln Center, as well as CNN studios from which Anderson Cooper 360 and Lou Dobbs Tonight are broadcast. Beware if you are walking in front of the building! Jeanne Moos, who does a “man on the street” segment for CNN often asks people questions in front of the building.
The Time Warner Center was the first major building to be completed after the September 11 terrorist attacks. Some people thought that the building did have a resemblance to the fallen towers, although the building was begun before that. In 2003, a financier paid $54.7 million dollars for the penthouse condo, which at the time was a record for residential sales in the city.
Jazz at Lincoln Center has one theater you can see when you visit the Time Warner Center. The Rose Theater has over 1200 seats in the center for their performances. Since 2005, they have partnered with XM Satellite Radio to broadcast daily jazz performances as well as special events. Many were built between 1870 and 1930 when the city underwent rapid population expansion. Many of the houses are build from brick and stone after the Great Fire of 1835 destroyed much of the city.
