Founded in 1933 by Walter and Isabel Bryan, The Villager is a weekly newspaper that serves the downtown area of New York City. It is part of a Community Media group, which also includes the Downtown Express, Chelsea Now and Gay City News. The Villager Newspaper has been the recipient of the Stuart Dorman Award three times under the management of the New York Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest. New York magazine cited this paper as a better publication than the New York Times.
