In order understand the paper today; you must know a few things about the NY Daily News in the past. The New York Daily News was created by Joseph Medill Patterson. Patterson and his cousin, Robert R. McCormick, were co-publishers of the Chicago Tribune. The cousins had a dispute about what kind of information they wanted to put in the paper, so they decided that Patterson would go his own way and launch a new paper. A man named Alfred Harmsworth launched Patterson’s idea, and it became known as the New York Daily News. The newspaper was, by no means, a success right off the bat. The reviews were harsh and the sales were slow. It got back on its feet shortly after, though, and it now prides itself on amazing photos that cover entertainment, sports and news stories. Zuckerman took over the paper in 1993 after the death of Patterson and it continues to be a great source of news, comics and celebrity gossip, among other things. The New York Daily News assumed headquarters in a landmark skyscraper until 1995. It is still known as “The News Building” today, even though the paper isn’t based there anymore. The skyscraper still contains weather instruments in its lobby and includes the famous “globe”. One of the big accomplishments of the Daily News building is that it functioned as a model for the “Daily Planet” in the highly esteemed Superman movies, dating back to 1978. The large globe in the real-life lobby actually stood in as the “Planet” symbol.

Another favorite part of the paper is its section called “Voice of the People”. This portion allows the people who write the letters to respond to other letters. It lets the citizens have a voice in the goings on of the city. See what the people of New York have to say!
