Javits Convention Center: Causing Controversy for Wanting More

The Javits Convention Center was designed by I. M. Pei and partners and the frame of the building was put up in 1986. The Javits Convention Center was named in honor of New York Senator Jacob K. Javits who had passed away the year the place was built. This huge building has quite the controversial history that all began in the 1970s with efforts to create a super-sized project that involved a plan for redevelopment. The construction of this huge expansion was finally set to take place in 2006 and is said to be a $1.7 million project that will expand the size of the center by 45%.
