The Guggenheim
The Guggenheim
The Guggenheim is one of the best-known modern art museums, so jump in your sports car rental or passenger van rental in New York. It is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, on the corner of 89th Street and Fifth Avenue.
Paint, draw, sculpt
The Guggenheim was created by a wealthy American industrialist of the same name. He had a large collection of important modern art. However, the collection was too large for the apartment that Guggenheim had in the Plaza Hotel, so he needed a space to put it. At the time, Guggenheim would allow small exhibits of his collection to travel through the eastern United States.
Round and round it goes...
One of the most interesting things about the Guggenheim, although this has also been a large criticism of the museum, is the architecture. Inside, the viewing gallery is a spiral from the ground to the top. Paintings are found along the spiral and in the viewing rooms along the way. As you drive up in your large SUV rental in NYC, from the outside, you may think that the description is fairly good as you drive up with your car rental in New York. This modern art museum looks a little like a ribbon curled into a stack, slightly wider at the bottom than the top. It is not boxy like other Manhattan buildings.
How to interpret this work
There are many permanent and temporary modern art exhibits that are found at the Guggenheim. Some of the past exhibitions have included work such as Jackson Pollock, Picasso, and many other famous artists, as well as collections from all over the world.
