Flatiron Building

The Flatiron Building (or Fuller Building) was once the tallest building in New York when it was completed in 1902. Located at 175 Fifth Avenue, it faces Madison Square. The Flatiron Building was designed to look like a classical Greek column with a glazed terra-cotta facade. It was one of the first buildings to use a steel skeleton, so it was one of the tallest buildings at the time, standing at 285 feet. When you pull up to it in your New York minivan rental, you may recognize the building from the opening credits of The Late Show with David Letterman. The building is very unique because it was built as a triangle. It is significant because it is one of the oldest surviving skyscrapers.

Madison Square Garden is a multi-use arena in New York that is used for many different events. It is located over Penn Station, so it is very easy to find with your New York cheap car rental. It is home to the Knicks basketball team and the Rangers hockey team. There are also concerts and many other events that take place here. Whether you like basketball, hockey, women’s basketball, or music – you are sure to find something here when you visit. Special events such as the Ringling Brothers and the Barnum and Bailey Circus perform here when they are in New York City. Music is also popular here. Many live concerts are taped here and released as an album afterwards. Many big artists also broadcast their concert live from here, including Britney Spears and NSYNC. There are also benefit concerts held here, including the Concert for New York City following September 11.

Madison Square is located on Seventh Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets. If you are coming in a car, take any of the bridges, tunnels, or road from outside Manhattan. There is parking at 230 West 31st Street, 325 West 34th Street, and 441 9th Avenue. It might be easier to take the subway or train. This way you do not have to worry about parking your rent a car from Prestige Car Rental. The train will take you right to Penn Station at Madison Square Garden. Or, take the 1, 2, or 3 (Seventh Avenue Lines), A, C or E (Eighth Avenue Subway) to 34th Street/Penn Station. There is also B, D, F, N, Q, R or Path to 34th Street/Avenue of the Americas (one block walk).

While you visit the Flatiron Building, another experience that you should try is to see a Broadway or Off-Broadway play (located near the Flatiron Building). There are some very well-known plays, as well as a number of more intimate productions. Although this can be an expensive evening, if you are open to seeing different plays, head to TKTS in Duffy Square for cheap tickets for same-day plays. You can save a lot of money this way, but you risk not seeing your top choice.
