The Financial District in New York has so many financial institutions for you to visit that you might be able to accomplish your dreams of earning millions after all. Check out the southernmost section of Manhattan where there are more than enough offices and headquarters of financial businesses to suit your needs.

Money, money, money

The neighborhood of New York’s Financial District has some of the most famous and popular businesses and buildings in the world. You can check out the New York Stock Exchange which is the largest one in the world in terms of dollar volume. It is also the second largest according to the number of companies listed in it. The New York Stock Exchange is appropriately named the “Big Board” and it’s a great experience to have on your New York City car rental vacation.

A devastating loss

The Financial District was held together by the World Trade Center until September 11, 2001 when the devastating terrorist attacks took place. The boundaries are now decided by the New Amsterdam area which settled in the late 17th century. There are about 30,000 people who live here, but during the day and during big business meetings, there can be up to 300,000 people inflating the district. It is truly an outstanding thing to observe and to be a part of if you choose to do so on your New York City car rental trip.

The main squeeze

The district is made up of an area that is just south of City Hall Park but it doesn’t include Battery Park City or Battery Park, so keep that in mind. The corner of Wall Street and Broad Street is known as the heart of the Financial District. This is where most of the action takes place and where most of the deals are made. The Fulton Fish Market also used to be a big part of the district but it soon moved to Hunts Point in the Bronx. You should definitely take a walk around here just to see what really goes on New York City car rental customers.

If you want to get technical

Also located in the Financial District is the Federal Hall National Memorial. This memorial can be found in the same area as the first US Capitol and where the first President of the US, George Washington, was inaugurated. If you want to take a look at these historic pieces then be sure to go to the Nassau Street and Wall Street corner. You might be interested to know that the Financial District refers to the geographical location and Wall Street implies the financial institutions as a whole. This being said, the area is officially known as “Wall Street”.

A growing phenomenon

The area of the Financial District is largely becoming a residential neighborhood with more and more apartments being built to sustain these needs. However, the district is known as a spot for traders and office workers to come and make money. At the same time, it’s also a great place for tourists to come and see the area and attractions, like the South Street Seaport. There is just so much to do and see on your New York City car rental journey that you can’t miss out.
