This beautiful New York Cathedral is located on Amsterdam Avenue and is the biggest Protestant church in the entire world. It is also said to be the third largest Christian church in the world. Construction on the cathedral began in 1892 and it has undergone many changes and renovations throughout its time. It has endured two World Wars and is still standing today, but construction is not complete on this gorgeous New York Cathedral. It will be many more years until this place can say that it’s finally finished. Don’t you want to see what it is all about?

Here is the church, here is the steeple

The property for the Cathedral of St John the Divine was bought in 1887 as an 11.5 acre land area. The idea for the cathedral came from George Lewes Heins and John LaFarge as a Romanesque-Byzantine style design. Construction began in 1892 and a few years later, the design was altered to a French gothic one. Part of the building is still Romanesque in a crossing under the dome that was built after Heins passed away. Pearl Harbor quickly approached and construction was stopped to deal with this issue. It started back up again until the 1990s, when a shortage of finances halted creation again. Some new men were brought in to continue the process and the Western part of the building was finally finished in 1997. It is not yet complete today, but there is still much to see. Grab your family, get in your SUV rental, van rental or car rental from Prestige, and go see this magnificent place of prayer.
